Stock Market Highlights
Domestic stock markets closed Monday’s trading in the clutches of bears, owing to weak global signals, strong inflation fears, and bank stock underperformance.
The S&P BSE Sensex fell 1,172 points, or 2.01%, to 57,166, while the NSE Nifty 50 index plummeted 302 points, or 1.73 percent, to 17,173.
Bank Nifty, like the rest of the market, ended the day 1.96 percent down. The India VIX closed the day 8% higher, breaking above the 19-level barrier.
The highest Sensex gainer was NTPC, which jumped 6.5 percent, followed by Tata Steel, Maruti Suzuki India, and Titan. Infosys fell 7%, followed by HDFC, HDFC Bank, Tech Mahindra, and TCS.
