Stock Market Highlights
On the first day of the new fiscal year, benchmark indexes finished higher, with the Nifty ending at 17,700.
The BSE Sensex closed at 59,276.69, up 708.18 points or 1.21 percent, and the NSE Nifty Nifty 50 closed at 17,670.50, up 205.70 points or 1.18 percent.
The top Nifty gainers were NTPC, BPCL, Power Grid Corporation, IndusInd Bank, and SBI, while the top losers were Hero MotoCorp, SBI Life Insurance, Sun Pharma, Tech Mahindra, and Titan Company.
On the bourses, the Nifty PSU Bank index gained 4%, with Union Bank, Bank of India, Canara Bank, and Bank of Maharashtra all rising more than 4%.
Meanwhile, the Nifty Bank, Private Bank, Media, Financial Services, Realty, and FMCG indexes all gained between 1.5 and 2%. In wider markets, the BSE midcap and smallcap indexes also gained over 1%.

Share worth Rs. 1,909.78 Crore were Net sold by Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), whereas shares worth Rs. 183.79 Crore was the net bought by Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) on April 1.
